10 Adorable Valentine's Day Card Ideas to Make With Your Kids

Valentine’s Day is only a few days away! This loveable holiday is the perfect opportunity for you and your kids to spend some quality time together to create something amazing—not to mention how excited they’ll be when they get to bring them to class and give them to their teacher and classmates. Even better, you could make extras to hand out to grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, cousins, and best friends. Spread some love and joy with a few of the people closest to you and your kids with some handmade and thoughtful cards!

You know that anyone and everyone will enjoy a handmade card—especially if it’s thought up with them in mind. Ready to get started? Let’s dive into some great card ideas that you can create with any age group for someone special.

  • Hearts, hearts, and more hearts!

  • Valentine’s Day is the holiday of love, which means a card covered in hearts is the perfect idea. Luckily, cutting out hearts from cardstock is quick and easy. Grab a pair of scissors and your most colorful paper and help your little one design a card covered in hearts with added texture and dimension. Don’t want to hand a pair of scissors to your kids just yet? No worries! Stamps, finger paint, crayons, and stencils are all great ways to capture that lovely heart shape on your paper. The most important thing is to have fun with it and let your kiddo experiment!

  • Use your hands.

  • Remember when you were a kid and had your hands traced on paper? It was so exciting to look down at the paper and see the size and shape of your hands! Not only will your kids LOVE this idea but it’s something that will also be a long-term reminder of their size at that age. Any lucky person to receive this card will love to look back on it for years to come!

On top of tracing and cutting out their hands, you can also incorporate fingerpaint for a fun and colorful idea. Go to the store and pick out their favorite colors, set up a play space, and let them play by placing their hands in the paint and pressing them to the paper. What a fun way to get creative and experience the different senses!

  • Consider their favorite animals.
  •

Animals are a fun and gender-neutral design for any fun card. Plus, it’s a great way to play around with words with your little one! Take turns coming up with funny puns for their favorite animals.

Here are just a few fun examples:

    • “You’re PAWSitively the best!”
    • “One in chameleon”
    • “I wuff you!”
    • “The deer-est Valentine”
    • “I otterly adore you”
    • “I am wild about you!”
    • “You are purrfect”

The possibilities are endless! Or maybe I should say paws-abilities…

  • Incorporate hobbies and interests.

  • Like their favorite animals, you can also create cards based on their favorite things. Do they love to sing and dance? Is math their favorite subject in school? Do they adore learning about space? Could they play video games all day? Do they have a favorite toy?

All of these things could easily be turned into an amazing Valentine’s Day card, and you and your kids will have a great time making them. For example, if space is their favorite thing to learn about right now, you can make galaxy-themed Valentines! Use fun sayings like “you’re out of this world!” to encourage others and spread the love for this joyful holiday. Get those creative juices flowing together and see what your little ones come up with!

  • Throw out any and all rules!

  • What’s more fun than creating abstract art? Get out the supplies, sit with your little ones, and let them brainstorm any ideas they want! Let them scribble down any shapes and colors they love, practice writing words, or whip out the salad spinner to create abstract art with sharp lines and bright colors. There’s not just one way to express your creativity, so let your kids explore their senses without any rules or guidelines. It’ll be such a fun surprise to see what they come up with on their own!

  • Tailor the card to the special someone receiving it.

  • There’s nothing that says “I love you” more than thoughtfully planning out what someone will love most. Not sure what speaks to you or your kids? Think about what the person receiving it loves or needs! For example, you could make a sign language card that says “I love you” for the classmate who’s hard of hearing, or incorporate a fun treat like chocolate for the sweet tooth in the family! Your loved one will be sure to cherish it forever.

  • Think outside the box and off the paper.

  • Your cards don’t need to stay limited to just using paper. Think about it: personalized jumbo candy bars, stuffed animals, small toys, lollipops! These are all fun and creative mediums that can carry special messages for your loved ones. They even have personalized M&Ms that you could pick out with your little one! However you choose to express your love, the recipient will appreciate the extra thought that went into it.

  • Make a DIY scratch-off card

  • While it may seem like it, you don’t need to buy fancy cards from the store to make something amazing! You can make so many things from the comfort of your home with a few special supplies. For example, just watch this video for a how-to on a DIY scratch off card! This is something that not only the receiver will love but will also be an amazing craft for you and your kids to figure out.

  • Scrapbook your design

  • Do you have favorite pictures of your little one you’ve been dying to share? Are there a bunch of magazines laying around your house? Use them! Cut out your favorite parts and glue them to your paper to make a beautiful and unique picture. Not only is it engaging, but it’s also a great opportunity to practice some important fine motor skills!

  • Go simple and sweet

  • While it’s fun to go all out and have fun with the design of your card, words are also an amazing way to express how much you care. Sit down with your kids and flex those writing skills to come up with a special message that your loved ones will read time and time again. Whether it’s a short and sweet note or a full-on letter, a few words can express grand emotions.

However you choose to spread love on Valentine’s Day, remember to make the day count! The holiday is an amazing opportunity to show others just how much you care about them and how special they are, so don’t let the day pass you by without expressing it. From all of us at Sidekix™, Happy Valentine’s Day! We appreciate all of your love and support!
